Go Beavs!

There was a lot going of screaming and hollering in my living room night last night when OSU pulled out an improbable win in the 9th inning over Arkansas. Signe had to make signs to cheer them on tonight to win the College World Series.

Who knocked down the dominos?

We might have pics of kids sleeping on the way home from every tournament. It's hard to blame them when you have miles of Eastern Washington nothingness to look at. At least it's still green this early in the summer!

The many faces of our softball player

We can't forget Signe! She stayed in Moscow with the Sentzes to play in her end-of-the-year tournament this weekend. Her 6th-8th grade team had some turns that hadn't played before so they only had a couple wins, but Signe loved it. She was one of the two main pitchers until her shoulder started bothering her early in the season.

Keeping cool in Moses Lake

Karsten chills in the shade with Aiden Hurn, whose older brother Cam is one of Gunnar's teammates. And after our last game today we stopped again at the lake to swim and bury Dad before heading home.

This kid is ON FIRE!!

Not that you can tell from these goofy selfies! Another family brought a boat so the boys had a blast last night playing in the water.

We are back in Moses Lake (where Nick memorably got his kidney stone last year) for the 10U All Star team to play in a tournament. I am busy doing stats and Nick assistant coaching so I don't have any videos of Gunnar's beautiful swing. He was 9 for 11 (!!! that's .818) with three doubles and five singles, as well as hit by a pitch. He crushed the ball out of the infield every at bat; his two outs were both line drives caught by left fielders. Combined with last week's tournament he is batting a team-leading .647.

He also caught almost all of the five games because he was doing a great job blocking the ball, in spite of the heat. The Blue Devils were 3-2 this weekend.

No games for a couple of weeks, but the team has plenty to work on before the state tournament down in Meridian. The third week in July Moscow will host the 10U regional tournament, which will have teams as from as far away as Canada and Colorado. As hosts we get an automatic berth, so we want to show up and play well!

Tourney Champs!

This weekend the Latah County 10U All Stars won their very first tournament: the All-Star Kickoff Tournament here in Moscow. They were impressive in all five games, outscoring their opponents a total of 54-2. Gunnar hit 3 doubles and 2 singles.
I love the last pic, of head coach Jeremy Spencer congratulating pitcher Jameson Morris, after Jaymo ended a game with a terrific bare-handed snag of a bad hop and threw the batter out at first.

Baseball player with goofy smile

What a weekend for baseball here in Moscow!
Gunnar has been playing travel ball with the Generals team from March through May, along with regular season Cal Ripken with Zane, cousin Ransom, and Dad as his coach that ended a couple weeks ago.
Now is the time for All-Stars, and this weekend was their first tournament with a game last night and two rainy games today. They dominated with 12-0, 12-0, and 14-0 wins that were all called with a mercy rule in the 3rd or 4th inning.

Gunnar played 3rd and catcher, and had 2 doubles as the 4th batter. The Latah County 10U Blue Devils All-Star team were an impressive group to watch!!

(On a side note, look at the new front door behind Gunnar that we just got installed this week!)
