Coastal Holloways gaping at the eclipse.

Had to post this radical pic by Chad. Can't beat that family photo. Gapers!!

Eclipse and first day of school.

Informal school pic and eclipse shots.

1st day of school!

...and Eclipse Day! See Karsten holding his glasses? His dad will take him up from the classroom to the parking lot to view the eclipse, while the older kids will walk up with their teachers. We get about 94% coverage here in Moscow; some families are skipping the first day and driving south towards totality. My 3rd period Spanish class is during the 10:27 time of fullest coverage, so I won't accomplish much more than a quick syllabus summary today!

Signe - 7th grade (1st day of secondary!)
Gunnar - 5th grade
Zane - 2nd grade
Karsten - kindergarten

Signe's 12th birthday

Oops! I realized that I forgot to post pics from Signe's birthday last Saturday. The ladies went out to lunch first at the new Varsity Diner, including Nana, who had driven out the day before from Oregon with Signe and my brother's two daughters who had stayed with them. Signe had a small party with old friends Eleanor Evans, Bea McIntosh, Bekah Belschner, Xan Doane, and cousin Greta.

A 3rd place tourney win!

Having only practiced together a couple of times, and because Gunnar has played very little basketball lately, we weren't expecting much at the tournament today. So it was fun when his team squeaked out the first 2 wins, then lost the next two by only 3 points each game. He was asked to join this team after they had picked out the name, "Jay - Z is my agent". It wouldn't be Gunnar's first choice for a name. Can you tell how filthy his face is from dust and sweat in the last pic?

More Lentil Fest pics

There was a booth with a green screen that had some fun backgrounds and free pictures printed! Gunnar is pictured with his teammates Jay Marshall (from his baseball all-star team), Andrew Hurley, and Keaton Clark. The red-headed Keaton injured a tendon at practice last night so he didn't play today; the other three boys played without a sub.

Cousin Theo's older team made it to their championship game, but he went home early after a super tall kid stepped on his head.

Foul shot for the win...

Gunnar just hit this last second foul shot to help his team win their first 3 on 3 basketball game at Lentil Fest in Pullman.

More Canyonview pics

Zane is pictured with his counselor "Labrador". My brother's daughters Sedelee (age 10) and Elah (age 9) are also staying with my parents this week, and Signe has been keeping them entertained while the boys are off at camp. Sedelee went to the end-of-the-week camp potluck with us, and after we got home this evening all 3 girls put on a play they had rehearsed earlier. Signe was THRILLED to have other girls who wanted to make up a play. Her brothers often drive her crazy by quitting halfway through rehearsal to pursue more warlike adventures.

Hot Thursday

Yesterday Nick took the girls down to the Gilbert House in Salem during about 108 degree weather. That evening he took Signe and Gunnar to a Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball game. The game went late, with the Volcanoes losing 10-11. Gunnar snagged a foul ball, and had the player (Logan Kirby) sign it. Hopefully he makes it to the majors someday!
